DOE ABC Initiative Phase 2 Funding for Fraunhofer USA CMI Awarded

We are proud to share that Fraunhofer USA CMI has been selected to receive Phase 2 funding from the Department of Energy Building Technologies Office’s Advanced Building Construction (ABC) Initiative. We will work with several project partners and US suppliers to develop and demonstrate a comprehensive, integrated deep energy retrofit solution for one- to four-family buildings.

Our solution combines prefabricated panel-block wall insulation with a portfolio of high-performance building technologies to reduce site energy consumption by >75% while enhancing the appearance of exterior walls. We will apply digital tools like laser scanning, computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, and augmented reality (AR) to empower workers and minimize site work, installed cost, and household disruption.

Ultimately, we will work with general contractors to demonstrate the deep energy retrofits on five one- to four-family buildings in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Vermont in under two weeks, demonstrating a pathway to an installed cost of $25/ft2.
